Read Privacy Policy →Shotup is a professional director's viewfinder app for iPhone. It's designed for filmmakers, cinematographers, directors, and photographers who want to scout locations, plan shots, and visualize lens and aspect ratio choices before arriving on set.
Shotup requests the following permissions:
- Camera — to show a live viewfinder for composing shots.
- Microphone — to capture audio when recording video clips.
- Location — to display GPS coordinates and compass bearing as shot metadata.
- Motion sensors — to display roll angle in the viewfinder.
- Photo Library (add only) — to save exported images and videos. Shotup cannot read your existing photos.
All data stays on your device. Nothing is transmitted externally.
Shotup runs on any iPhone with iOS 16 or later. For the best experience — especially with lens simulation and real-time overlays — we recommend iPhone 12 or newer.
Tap the ratio indicator displayed in the viewfinder overlay to cycle through available formats, or open the settings panel to select a specific ratio such as 1.85:1, 2.39:1, 16:9, or 4:3.
Open the lens panel and enter or select the focal length you want to simulate — from ultra-wide to telephoto. The viewfinder will crop and scale the live image to match that field of view on your chosen sensor format.
Tap the capture button to save a frame with all its metadata (lens, ratio, location, notes). From your project, you can export frames to your Photo Library, generate a PDF shot list, or share via the iOS Share Sheet.
Yes — Shotup is fully offline. All features work without any internet connection, making it reliable on remote locations, soundstages, or anywhere else you're scouting.
No. All data — including captured frames, video clips, GPS metadata, and project files — is stored locally on your device. Nothing is sent to any server. See our Privacy Policy for full details.
Deleting Shotup from your device permanently removes all app data, including projects, scenes, and saved metadata. Any images or videos you previously exported to your Photo Library will remain there.
